Home Care in Tallahassee FL
Seniors often live on a tight budget, so finding ways to save money is a great way for the home care provider to offer assistance. Whether it is saving money at the grocery or trying to put money back for a special occasion, there are several ways that seniors can start saving money. Here are just a few ways for seniors to stretch their budget each month.
AARP is an excellent way for seniors to save money on almost everything as well as get advice on things such as finances and taxes. The cost of joining is inexpensive and the membership discounts will help to offset the membership cost in a short period of time. Ask your loved ones home care provider to help the senior apply for membership, which can be done online, through the mail or by telephone.
Before shopping day, ask the home care provider to assist your loved one in making a list of what items are needed. In fact, it may be helpful to keep a running list nearby so that items can be added as they are needed. Shopping with a list will help to reduce impulse buying which can cut into the budget. Make sure to encourage the senior to look through the local ads to find which stores have the best sales. If shopping requires going to more than one store for the best deals, if the home care provider also provides transportation for the senior, make sure to remind them that shopping may be a several hour event.
Clipping coupons is not only a great way to save money, but it is also a great way for the senior and their home care provider to spend time together on an activity. Encourage the senior and their home care provider to only clip the coupons that will be used. Consider giving the senior an attractive coupon organizer that is easy for them to carry as well as one with separation tabs that are written in large, easy to read letters.
Arrange to spend a few hours with your loved one writing down all of the medications they are currently taking or ask the home care provider to assist you. Make a list of all medications and have the senior take the list with them to their next medical appointment. Ask the medical provider if any of the medications can be taken in the generic form instead of the name brand version and when buying over-the-counter medications, encourage the senior to buy the store brand.
Don’t forget to remind the senior and/or their home care provider to inquire about senior discounts during outings. For example, many local restaurants and stores offer discounts to seniors for specific items or on certain days of the week.
