What You Will Need

For the Orange Glaze

• Nonstick cooking spray

• 1 cup of packed light brown sugar

• 1 orange

• 1 stick of unsalted room temperature butter

• 1/4 teaspoon of salt

• 2 tablespoons of honey

• 9 inch round cake pan

• Small saucepan

• Stirring spoon

• Grater for zesting

For Orange Roll filling

• 1 cup of packed light brown sugar

• 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon

• 1/4 teaspoon of salt

• 1 tablespoon of unsalted, melted butter

• 1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves

For Orange Roll dough

• 3 cups of all purpose flour, plus more for flouring working surface

• 2 teaspoons of baking powder

• 2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar

• 1/2 teaspoon salt

• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

• 6 tablespoons unsalted, melted butter

• 1 1/4 cups of room temperature buttermilk


What to Do

• Grease the cake pan with nonstick cooking spray

• Combine the brown sugar, butter, honey and salt in the small sauce pan

• Zest the orange and put aside for the filling

• Squeeze the juice from the orange into the sauce pan

• Put the heat to medium-high and bring the liquid to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar

• Reduce the heat to medium and cook while stirring occasionally for seven minutes or until the glaze thickens enough to coat the spoon

• Pour the glaze into the cake pan and set aside

• In a small bowl, combine the orange roll brown sugar, orange zest, salt, cinnamon and cloves

• Pour the melted butter on top and use a fork to stir until the mixture looks like wet sand

• Set the filling aside

• Place a rack in the center of the oven

• Preheat the oven to 325 degrees

• In a large bowl add in the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt and whisk together

• In a medium bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and melted butter

• Add buttermilk mix to the flour mixture in the large bowl and stir with a spatula until dough forms

• Flour a surface large enough to knead your dough

• Turn your dough out onto the surface and knead until smooth

• Roll out the dough into a 12 x 9 inch rectangle

• Spread the filling evenly over the dough, leaving a border of 1/2 inch around the edges

• Roll the dough, starting at one end, into a log

• Pinch the seam

• Slice the log into 8 pieces

• Place the rolls cut size down into the glaze in the cake pan

• Bake until rolls for 25 – 30 minutes or until the rolls are golden and the filling is bubbly and dark

• Cool the rolls in the pan for 5 minutes

• Turn the rolls out onto the platter and spread remaining glaze on top of the rolls

• Allow to cool and serve
