Types of Arthritis
There are three main types of arthritis, including:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis: According to the Arthritis Foundation, it is defined as a “systemic disease characterized by the inflammation of the membranes lining the joint, which causes pain, stiffness, warmth, swelling, and sometimes severe joint damage.”
  • Osteoarthritis: This type of arthritis is progressive degenerative joint disease that occurs when there is a breakdown of cartilage. It can often be found in the hips, hands, spine, and knees and is the most common form of arthritis.
  • Inflammatory arthritis: When the immune system begins attacking the joints with uncontrolled inflammation, the result is usually joint erosion, possibly damaging the internal organs, eyes, and other parts of the body.

Exercises

Also, by doing exercises that gently stretch the body, there will be an increase in mobility and movement. This workout is perfect for everyone, but especially people with tender, swollen joints.
  • Walking: By walking at a moderate-to-difficult level three to five days a week for 30 minute sessions will build endurance. However, if 30 minutes is too much, start off with 10 minutes and work your way up to the full 30.
  • Pilates: If you know someone who has rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Pilates will help strengthen the muscles that support the joints and stabilize the joints.
  • Water aerobics: The water will relieve the pressure in the joints, making this the perfect workout for elders with joint pain. Walk from one side of a lap pool to the other at a brisk pace for an effective workout.
